Get to know Dr. Lo
Family:
I am definitely a “family man”. I love spending much of my free time with my wonderful wife Katy, our young daughter Emma, and our toddler Jack. Changing diapers and preparing for pre-school has been the theme in our household as of late. I would not ask for it any other way.
Why is what you do important?
I provide true health care as opposed to traditional medicine’s ‘sick care’. I search for the cause of a patient’s health issue, rather than manage the patient’s symptoms. It is an amazing feeling to be able to watch patients reach their full health potential after they have been told by other health professionals that nothing could be done for them.
What are your hobbies?
I am a sports fanatic. I enjoy playing golf, basketball, and tennis. When I am not participating in sports, I love to follow collegiate and professional football, basketball, and baseball. I am especially biased to teams from our state. During the warmer months, I enjoy being outdoors mowing my lawn and working in the yard.
Favorite music?
It depends on my mood. I listen to anything from jazz to classic rock. As of late, most of the songs I have been listening to while driving in my car are performed by Barney, Walt Disney and Fisher Price. Heaven help me!
Favorite food?
I eat almost anything. At times I eat everything and some people hate me for it because I seem to be immune to gaining weight. “Just wait ‘til you’re older” they tell me. But until then, I would have to say that I love to eat Italian and Chinese food.
What do you like to do during your free time?
I used to enjoy a nice round of golf, but that was before I had kids. I love spending time with my children. They grow up so fast that I try to cherish every moment I have with them. Watching them discover the world helps me appreciate the simple things in life. I never thought that I would enjoy watching snow fall from the sky as much as I did when my kids saw that phenomena for the first time.
Best advice you have received?
It’s the little things you do in life that make the biggest difference.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
I am most proud of graduating with highest honors from chiropractic school. Maintaining a near perfect 4.0 GPA for four years was very challenging considering the difficulty of chiropractic training.
Do you adjust children?
I adjusted my children less than 5 minutes after they were born. So, the answer would be a definite yes! Proper spinal health starts at a very young age. Trauma to the spine and nervous system occurs during a baby’s development in the womb and during the birthing process. If those insults go unchecked, there is a great chance that the effects of the trauma will show up as common childhood complaints like colic, chronic colds and ear infections. If left in the spine long enough, many other health problems may emerge in adulthood. So I firmly believe that all children should be checked for nerve interference to find out if they need to be adjusted.
What is your adjusting style?
I find that it is very important to take into consideration the needs of the patient when deciding on the style of adjustment they are going to receive. Certain patients benefit most from a gentle style of adjustment. In a case like that, I would use a light force instrument to deliver a gentle adjustment. An infant or a small child would also benefit most from a gentle adjustment. For their tiny spines, I would use the end of my index or pinkie finger and place a few ounces of pressure on the necessary areas. Finally, for a patient that requires a more forceful adjustment, I would use my hands and specifically designed chiropractic tables to deliver the adjustment.
My Chiropractic Story
One of the most common questions patients ask me is, “How did you become interested in Chiropractic?” All patients are surprised when I tell them that it was the successful elimination of my allergies through Chiropractic care that spurred my interest in becoming a Chiropractor.
When most people think of Chiropractic, they associate the profession with auto accidents or pain. My first experience with Chiropractic had nothing to do with pain. As a college undergraduate, I had read that Chiropractic was helpful in treating people with allergies. Getting nowhere with the assortment of allergy medicine I was taking, I decided to give chiropractic a try. To my amazement, my allergies pretty much disappeared within 3 months of care. I knew right then that I wanted to share the healing benefits of Chiropractic with others by becoming a Chiropractor.
My experience with my allergies is a great example of how Chiropractic is successful in helping with a wide variety of health issues that are not usually considered to be ‘back’ problems. The idea is very simple. Chiropractic adjustments allow a patient’s natural healing capacity to function at higher levels by restoring the body’s normal nerve flow.
As a father of two young children, I am a strong believer that proper spinal health starts at a very young age. One of my focuses is to check the spines of newborns and children for nerve interference. It is very common for spinal trauma to occur during the birthing process and then show up as common childhood complaints like colic, chronic colds and ear infections. I have found that if these traumas are left in the spine long enough, many other health problems may emerge in childhood and adulthood, due to the long term interference of communication from the brain to the rest of the body. It is my job to locate and remove the areas of nerve interference, allowing optimum health levels for my patients.
My own personal experience with chronic low back pain from years of participating in sports has led me to a personal pursuit of researching and training in various techniques to help the weekend athlete, and the chronic pain sufferer. I am driven to find the latest technological advances and methods to help my patients. I have been utilizing Disc Decompression since 2000, preventing hundreds of patients from debilitating back surgeries. I have vast knowledge in Auriculotherapy, which has helped many chronic pain sufferers become pain-free. I am also well versed in providing nutritional guidance for patients looking for natural solutions to their health challenges.
I find great joy assisting my patients in solving their health issues, whether it is a grandfather with chronic low back pain, an infant with chronic ear infections, or a mother with insomnia. Finding safe, effective, and natural methods to help patients reach their maximum health potential will always be a passion of mine.
