Auriculotherapy
What is Auriculotherapy?
Auriculotherapy (aw-rik'-ulo-
therapy) is similar to ear acupuncture, but does not involve the use of needles. While originally based upon the ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture, the modern science of Auriculoutherpy was developed in France in the late 1950's.

Whereas acupuncture is based on "energy meridians," auriculotherapy is based on the human nervous system.

How does it work?
Imagine your brain as a computer. Inside this computer is a "map" of the entire body. This map is projected onto the ear through the body's nervous system.

Accessing the points on the map with Auriculotherapy is like using a computer's keyboard or mouse to gain entrance into the computer. With the system accessed, the doctor is able to directly address a number of problems and conditions through the "brain's computer."

What happens?
A 510K Class II FDA approved micro-current stimulator is placed on specific reflex points on the outside of the ear. Stimulating these points sends a message to the brain based on the location of the reflex point being addressed.

The brain will then allow natural pain relieving biochemicals known as endorphins and encephalin to be released into the blood stream.

The raised levels of these natural pain relievers will contribute to a sense of well-being and pain relief in many areas of the body.

Does it hurt?
Most patients report little or no discomfort when receiving an Auriculotherapy session. Patients report sensations ranging from
"pulsing" to "pinching" when the doctor addresses a reflex point. The sensation only lasts 15-60 seconds on each reflex point.

What can be helped?
Auriculotherapy is used to compliment the Chiropractic adjustment in
helping relieve the following conditions:

  • Chronic muscle pain
  • Burning sensations
  • Migraine headaches
  • Tension headaches
  • Sciatica
  • Upper/Lower back pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Elbow/Wrist pain
  • Hip pain
  • Knee/Foot/Ankle pain

Research by the UCLA School of Medicine has shown that Auriculotherapy can help reduce nicotine cravings.
